OUTREACH

Outreach is our way of giving back to our local community and we undertake several ongoing projects. See below for the details of each project and learn how you can help.

VIZCAYA HISTORIC HOUSE & GARDENS
In 2015 Vizcaya re-opened their shop and cafe. Cross-stitch kits designed by Andrea Ellis and based on the designs of butterflies, moths, and dragonfly found in the Bathroom Canopy that was reproduced and donated by Biscayne Chapter, went on sale. The models, stitched by members who had stitched on the actual canopy, were framed and put on display alongside the kits. Credit was given to Biscayne for the designs and assistance in preparing the kits.

HABITAT for HUMANITY

HABITAT for HUMANITY was our longest running project. We stitched samplers personalized for each family. These were then framed and given to the family when their new home was dedicated. Approximately 80-100 samplers were stitched and donated each year. This outreach program has now been discontinued.

The pictures show the families at a recent dedication ceremony.

KISSING PILLOWS

In conjunction with the local ANG Chapter, Royal Palm, we stitch the "Kissing Pillow" pillow tops and these are sent for making into the small pillows carried by US armed forces overseas. One pillow is given to the family at home and one to the individual overseas - this is a tactile reminder and connection for each party. In excess of 200 pillow tops have been made by the members of the two Chapters each year since this project started.

CAPS for CANCER

Our knitting and crochet members enjoy making these for donation to local hospitals for Cancer patients. All sizes are made from tiny doll sized caps to adult sizes.

RING PULLS for RONALD

The high quality Soda can ring pulls are collected by many of our members for donation to the Ronald MacDonald House at Jackson Memorial Hospital. They are sold to raise funds for the care of child cancer patients and their families.

FOOD DRIVE

Twice annually we collect dry and canned goods for the Riviera Church Outreach program. At our June and November meetings members bring along all sorts of goodies to be donated to needy local families for the summer when no school meals are available and for the winter holiday season.
